British Airways Club guide: Avios and Tier Points

Things to watch
- Cheap fares earn little. Because earning is spend-based, a sale fare to the other side of the world earns less than an expensive short business trip.
- Avios are shared currency. Avios can be moved between British Airways, Iberia, Qatar Airways, Finnair and Aer Lingus, which widens where you can use them.
- Check the cash part of award tickets. British Airways reward flights often carry significant carrier charges on top of the Avios, so compare the total cost before booking.
Who it suits
The British Airways Club suits UK-based flyers who buy higher fares on British Airways, and anyone collecting Avios through UK credit cards. If you mainly fly cheaper long-haul economy with oneworld airlines, a distance-based oneworld programme may earn status faster.
