KrisFlyer guide: miles and Elite status

KrisFlyer is Singapore Airlines' programme and a member of Star Alliance. It rewards distance flown, adjusted by the booking class you buy, and its Elite Gold tier gives Star Alliance Gold across the alliance.

Earning on Singapore Airlines flights
You earn a percentage of the distance flown, depending on the booking class on your ticket:

Elite miles, which count towards status, are earned in line with the miles for your fare. Scoot flights earn much less, between 10% and 25% of the distance.

Elite Silver and Elite Gold members earn a 25% tier bonus on redeemable miles for most fares, but not on the cheapest economy classes. The bonus doesn't count towards status. Up to 5,000 (Silver) or 10,000 (Gold) Elite miles can come from spending with KrisFlyer partners rather than flying.
PPS Club, Singapore Airlines' top tier, is earned through spending on premium-cabin tickets rather than Elite miles, so it isn't covered here.
Things to watch
- The cheapest economy fares earn half the distance. A slightly dearer fare in H, M or W can earn 50% more.
- Elite Gold takes 50,000 Elite miles. Other Star Alliance programmes reach the same Star Alliance Gold with less flying, such as Turkish Airlines at 40,000. If you mainly want lounge access across the alliance, compare before committing.
- You keep Singapore Airlines-only perks by staying with KrisFlyer. Tier bonus miles and Singapore Airlines' own benefits don't come with another programme's status.
Who it suits
KrisFlyer works well if you fly Singapore Airlines regularly on standard or flexible fares, collect miles through Singapore credit cards, and want to redeem on Singapore Airlines itself.
