Air New Zealand Koru guide
Rules checked October 5, 2026
Koru is the program of Air New Zealand, a member of Star Alliance. It was renamed on April 22, 2026, when it gained a Bronze entry tier and a new top tier, Koru Black. You earn Status Points on flights, and Air New Zealand sets a number per flight by route and fare.
At a glance
| Alliance | Star Alliance |
|---|---|
| How you earn | A set number of Status Points per flight, by route and fare |
| Status currency | Status Points |
| Qualifying period | Status Points last 12 months |
| Levels | Koru Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Black |
Status
| Level | To reach (Status Points) | To keep (Status Points) |
|---|---|---|
| Koru Silver | 450 | 405 |
| Koru Gold | 900 | 810 |
| Koru Platinum | 1,500 | 1,350 |
| Koru Black | 3,200 | 3,040 |
Silver and Gold need at least half their Status Points from qualifying flights, and Platinum and Black need 60%. Flights operated by Air New Zealand always qualify. When you reach a tier you move up straight away, and Air New Zealand reviews it again 12 months later. Elite members moved to Koru Platinum in April 2026.
Earning
Air New Zealand gives a set number of Status Points per flight depending on the route and fare, but doesn't publish the table. Look up each flight in the Koru earnings calculator on airnewzealand.com and enter the total into our calculator, which counts the rest.
What your Koru level means across Star Alliance
Reaching these levels gives you Star Alliance status, recognized by every Star Alliance airline. Levels below the first one listed carry no alliance status.
| Your Koru level | Star Alliance status |
|---|---|
| Koru Silver | Star Alliance Silver |
| Koru Gold | Star Alliance Gold |
| Koru Platinum | Star Alliance Gold |
The pages we read give no Star Alliance level for Koru Black, the new top tier.
