Virgin Atlantic Flying Club guide
Rules checked October 5, 2026
Flying Club is the program of Virgin Atlantic, a member of SkyTeam. You earn Virgin Points, which you spend on flights and rewards, and Tier Points, which decide your status. Both are earned on Virgin Atlantic and on 25 airline partners, though Tier Points are a fixed amount per flight rather than a share of the distance.
At a glance

Tier Points on Virgin Atlantic flights
Every flight earns a set number of Tier Points for its booking class, whatever the distance. A flight with a connection earns Tier Points for each part of the trip.
| Cabin | Booking classes | Tier Points per flight |
|---|---|---|
| Upper Class | J, C, D, I | 200 |
| Upper Class | Z | 100 |
| Premium | W, S | 100 |
| Premium | H, K | 50 |
| Economy Delight | V | 50 |
| Economy Classic | L, U, M, Y, B, R | 50 |
| Economy Classic | E, Q, X, N, O | 25 |
| Economy Light | T | 25 |
Booking classes G, P and A earn Tier Points only on full-points Reward Flights and companion bookings. Reward Flights earn Tier Points too, and flights you upgrade with points earn by the class you originally paid for.
Status
| Tier | Tier Points needed | Virgin Points bonus on Virgin Atlantic and SkyTeam flights | SkyTeam status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silver | 400 | 30% | Elite |
| Gold | 1,000 | 60% | Elite Plus |
Your membership year begins the day after you reach Silver or Gold and runs to the end of that calendar month plus 12 months. When you renew, the new year runs 12 full months from the first of the following month. To keep your tier, you need the same number of Tier Points within the year; if you don't, you move down one tier and your Tier Points reset. A Virgin Atlantic Upper Class return, or the equivalent on Delta, Air France or KLM, takes a Red member to Silver, and two take a Silver member to Gold.
Earning on partner airlines
Add your Flying Club number to a booking on any of 25 airline partners. Each partner has its own table, and the rate depends on the flight number on your ticket: a flight with a Virgin Atlantic (VS) number earns at Virgin Atlantic's own rates, and a flight with the partner's number earns at the partner's.
- Virgin Points: a percentage of the distance, by booking class. On SkyTeam partners the table has one column each for Red, Silver and Gold, so your tier bonus is already included. Delta Business (J, C, D) pays 500%, 650% and 800%.
- Tier Points: a set amount per flight, by cabin and by whether the flight is under or over 2,000 miles. On Delta Business (J, C, D, I) that is 40 under 2,000 miles and 200 over it, and 40 for any flight between two US airports.
- Non-SkyTeam partners such as ANA and Air New Zealand pay one rate at every tier. ANA Business (J, C, D, Z) pays 200% and 75 Tier Points on a long flight.
- IndiGo pays 700 Virgin Points and 10 Tier Points on each connecting IndiGo flight that has a Virgin Atlantic number.
The calculator covers 23 of them, plus Virgin Atlantic itself. Air France and KLM aren't covered yet: Virgin splits their tables into short, mid and long haul without saying where each starts.
Virgin Points don't expire, and they're only earned on flights paid for in money.

Who it suits
Travelers who cross the Atlantic with Virgin Atlantic or Delta and want SkyTeam status without flying one airline exclusively. Because Tier Points are a set amount per flight, a trip with a connection earns them for each flight.
