Maharaja Club is the program of Air India and Air India Express, and a member of Star Alliance. Status comes from Tier Points, which you earn by spending on Air India or by flying its Star Alliance partners, or simply from the number of flights you take.

Earning on Air India and Air India Express

Air India flights earn by the fare: the base fare plus fuel surcharge, without taxes and fees. Air India Express flights count the base fare only.

Booking on the Air India or Air India Express website or app adds 2 bonus Maharaja Points per ₹100, which don't count toward status. Maharaja Points don't expire as long as you keep flying: each Air India or Air India Express flight extends all your points by 24 months.

Earning on Star Alliance partners

Flights on Air India's Star Alliance partners earn by distance flown and booking class, not by the fare, plus 1 Tier Point for every 2 Maharaja Points. A few examples from Air India's chart:

Booking classes that aren't on Air India's chart earn nothing. The status calculator has the full chart for 23 partners. Asiana Airlines leaves Star Alliance on December 16, 2026, and its flights stop earning Maharaja Points from October 15, 2026.

You move up as soon as you qualify, and a tier lasts a year. To keep it, you need the same Tier Points or flights again. Partner flights count toward the flight targets too.

Who it suits
