JAL Mileage Bank guide
Rules checked October 4, 2026
JAL Mileage Bank (JMB) is the program of Japan Airlines and a member of oneworld. Status comes from FLY ON Points, which, like ANA's Premium Points, reward flights within Japan and around Asia especially well.

Miles on JAL international flights
JAL credits a percentage of the flight's distance, set by the booking class on your ticket.
| Cabin | Booking classes | Earning rate |
|---|---|---|
| First | F, A | 150% |
| Business | J, C, D, I | 125% |
| Business, discounted | X | 70% |
| Premium Economy | W, R | 100% |
| Premium Economy, discounted | E | 70% |
| Economy, full fare | Y, B | 100% |
| Economy | H, K, M | 70% |
| Economy | L, V, S | 50% |
| Economy, cheapest | O, Z, G, Q, N | 30% |
Flights within Japan earn by fare type instead: for example, 100% of the distance on a Flex fare in Economy and 75% on a Saver.
How FLY ON Points are worked out
FLY ON Points start from the miles a flight earns, multiplied by a route ratio. Flights within Japan count double, and JAL flights between Japan and Asia, Oceania or Vladivostok count one and a half times. All other international flights count once.
JAL flights also add a flight bonus of up to 400 FLY ON Points. On international flights, booking classes F, A, J, C, D, X, I, W, R, E, Y, B, H, K, M, L, V and S get 400, and the cheapest classes get none. Within Japan, Flex fares get 400 and Saver fares 200. Award tickets earn no FLY ON Points.
Flights on other oneworld airlines also earn FLY ON Points when you credit them to JAL Mileage Bank, but without JAL's flight bonus. Bonus miles, partner miles from non-oneworld airlines and shopping miles don't count.
Status
| Tier | FLY ON Points in the calendar year | Or flights, plus FLY ON Points | oneworld status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crystal | 30,000 (15,000 on JAL Group) | 30 flights (15 on JAL Group) and 10,000 | Ruby |
| Sapphire | 50,000 (25,000 on JAL Group) | 50 flights (25 on JAL Group) and 15,000 | Sapphire |
| JGC Premier (JAL Global Club members only) | 80,000 (40,000 on JAL Group) | 80 flights (40 on JAL Group) and 25,000 | Emerald |
| Diamond | 100,000 (50,000 on JAL Group) | 120 flights (60 on JAL Group) and 35,000 | Emerald |
Status earned during a calendar year starts about a week after you qualify and lasts until March 31 of the second year after. FLY ON Points reset to zero every January.
JAL Global Club and Life Status Points
JAL Global Club (JGC) is a longer-term membership based on Life Status Points, which build up over your lifetime and never reset. JAL flights earn 5 Life Status Points per flight within Japan, and 5 per 1,000 miles on international flights. Members can join JAL Global Club from 1,500 Life Status Points, with higher Star Grades above that. JGC members hold oneworld Sapphire status for as long as they remain members.
Who it suits
Travelers who fly JAL within Japan or around Asia, where the route ratios make FLY ON Points add up quickly, and anyone aiming for long-term oneworld Sapphire status through JAL Global Club.
