Aegean Miles+Bonus: the new rules start November 5, 2026
Rules checked October 5, 2026
Just over four weeks to go. If you're close to a tier, the easier rules end on November 4.
On November 5, 2026, Aegean Airlines changes how you earn and keep status in Miles+Bonus. You will be able to reach Silver and Gold by flying 16 or 32 flights instead of collecting Tier Miles, the Tier Miles you need to keep a tier go up, and a new top tier, Platinum, arrives. Aegean is a Star Alliance member, so these changes decide how easily you can reach Star Alliance Silver and Gold.
Until November 4, 2026 the status calculator shows the current rules, in the "Until November 4" column of the table below. It switches to the new rules by itself at the start of November 5, 2026, Greek time, so there's nothing for you to do. Until then, it shows only the old Silver and Gold, and there is no Platinum in it.
Why it matters before November 5
- Reaching Silver on miles gets harder. 12,000 Tier Miles must now come with 4 flights, not 2.
- Reaching Gold on miles gets much harder. 24,000 Tier Miles must now come with 12 flights, not 4. A traveler who qualifies on a few long, expensive flights is hit hardest.
- Keeping Gold costs half as much again. 12,000 Tier Miles becomes 18,000, with 12 flights instead of 4.
- The old upgrade rules apply until November 4. If you're near Silver or Gold on Tier Miles, count what you have now. Your own account shows your exact position.

Flights are flights on Aegean or Olympic Air. Only miles earned by flying count as Tier Miles. Source: Miles+Bonus: new tier rules and Platinum.
What it means
- Flights are now a way in. Sixteen flights, about eight round trips, reach Silver however few miles they earn, and 32 flights reach Gold. That favors short Greek and European hops that earn few Tier Miles.
- The flight minimums for the miles routes rise. The Tier Miles route to Silver now needs 4 flights instead of 2, and the route to Gold needs 12 instead of 4.
- Keeping Silver and Gold takes more miles. Silver goes from 8,000 to 9,000 Tier Miles and Gold from 12,000 to 18,000, which is half as much again.
- The big-total routes barely move. 35,000 becomes 36,000 for Silver, and 70,000 becomes 72,000 for Gold.
- Platinum sits above Gold. It needs the same 72,000 Tier Miles as Gold's total route, with at least 32 flights on Aegean or Olympic Air. It maps to Star Alliance Gold, the same alliance status Gold gives, so the alliance benefits don't change. Check Aegean's Platinum page for its own extras.
- Silver and Gold still map to Star Alliance Silver and Gold.
How it compares from the UK
Aegean's flight route to Gold is simple, 32 flights on Aegean or Olympic Air, which is 16 round trips. We worked out what Turkish Airlines' Miles&Smiles and Lufthansa's Miles & More need for a London flyer. Turkish Elite and Miles & More Senator are the equivalents of Aegean Gold: all three give Star Alliance Gold.
| Program and flights | Gold target | Round tripsto reach it |
|---|---|---|
| Aegean, new rulesflights on Aegean or Olympic Air, any fare | 32 flights | 16 |
| TurkishLondon–Istanbul on Turkish, economy | 40,000 Status Miles | 133,098 a round trip |
| TurkishLondon–Frankfurt on Lufthansa, business | 40,000 Status Miles | 172,400 a round trip |
| TurkishLondon–Frankfurt on Lufthansa, economy | 40,000 Status Miles | 251,600 a round trip |
| Lufthansa Miles & MoreLondon–Frankfurt on Lufthansa, business | Senator: 2,000 Points | 2580 a round trip |
| Lufthansa Miles & MoreLondon–Frankfurt on Lufthansa, economy | Senator: 2,000 Points | 5040 a round trip |
Each figure is what one round trip earns in the status calculator, divided into the target. The Turkish and Lufthansa figures link to the calculation. Aegean's miles can't be shown in the same way, because it only publishes Tier Miles in its own calculator, which is why its row counts flights.
- Turkish now beats Aegean on the numbers. A London flyer reaches Star Alliance Gold in 13 round trips to Istanbul in economy, against 16 to Athens.
- Aegean only flies a few UK routes: London Heathrow, Gatwick (seasonal), Manchester and Edinburgh to Athens. Turkish also flies from Birmingham. See Star Alliance Gold from the UK.
- Lufthansa's program is the slowest of the three for a flyer who isn't loyal to the Lufthansa Group: 25 business or 50 economy round trips to Frankfurt.
For someone who flies Aegean anyway, to Greece and on across the Greek islands, the new flights route is still a good deal. But for a UK flyer choosing a program to build status with, Aegean is no longer the obvious choice, and it needs to be checked against Turkish first.
When it applies to you
The new rules for reaching a tier start on November 5, 2026. The new rules for keeping a tier apply to each member after their next renewal date, and everyone gets at least 12 months to collect the miles or flights. Our calculator doesn't track your renewal date, so from November 5 it shows the new keep targets to everyone. If you renew before then, your own account is what counts.
What the calculator does and doesn't do
- Aegean only publishes Tier Miles in its own calculator, so you enter the Tier Miles for your trip, and our calculator counts the flights for you.
- Tier Miles are shown, not Award Miles. Silver and Gold members get 10% or 20% extra Award Miles, and that isn't included.
- Only flights on Aegean and Olympic Air count toward the flight targets.
Enter the Tier Miles for your trip to see how far it takes you toward Silver or Gold. The same link works before and after November 5.
